Project Overview
Baba Dioum, Senegalese Conservationist, said “In the end, will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught.” Children need to be taught how to protect and respect wildlife so they can grow up with an understanding of why it’s important.
Roger’s Rangers is an edutainment app targeting kids, ages 6 – 12. The branding for the app is inspired by actual park rangers and the national park service. The colors are natural and muted, but still lively to appeal to young users. The typefaces were chosen to be legible by young children but not too childish to not appeal to older users.
Roger’s Rangers is designed to entertain young kids while also teaching them about nature. Users will go through the game, filling their virtual field guide with information they gather about various animals, plants, and regions. Each level has many increasingly difficult stages, encouraging learning and understanding. In an effort to get kids away from the tablet screen, they can also use a physical field guide. With this, they can go outside and gather real evidence and information based on what they already know form the app.
